Mount Edziza (Ice Mountain) General Information.

Mount Edziza Mount Edziza One of the most significant volcanic areas in Canada, the mountain range is the site of lava flows, basalt plateaus, cinder cones - including the almost perfectly symmetrical "Eve Cone"; and Mount Edziza itself, a compound volcano with a glacier filled crater. The eruption that created this mountain spectacle occurred approximately 4 million years ago; it's latest eruption created Eve Cone, about 1300 years ago.

To the south of Raspberry Pass is the Spectrum Range. These mountains are named for their brilliant red, yellow, white, and purple rock. Erosion has blended many tones and gives the landscape the appearance of a vast watercolour.

Prehistorically, the area was heavily used by native Indians. Obsidian cutting blades and projectile points were manufactured on site and traded thoughout northwest America.

Mount Edziza, known to the locals as "Ice Mountain", is one of the highest elevations in this area at 2,790 meters.
