With its pristine wilderness, clear mountain lakes and rivers, this region is one of the most spectacular in the world, remaining virtually untamed. It's the true British Columbia WILDERNESS in all its splendor and tradition - unspoiled by man.

    Mount Edziza:

Explore and enjoy the rugged beauty of Mount Edziza, which native lore refers to as Ice Mountain or The Sleeping Volcano. You will delight in the variety of landscapes encountered in this mountain environment, standing 2,787 meters (9,143 feet) in the skyline and spreading over 230,000 hectares (568,100 acres). Forests, alpine meadows, volcanic lava flows, basalt plateaus, cinder fields and numerous cones, remain virtually unaltered by erosion and provide a spectrum of color and beauty to the eye.

    Telegraph Creek Historical Telegraph Creek:

Historical Telegraph Creek was a staging area for many pack trains that delivered men and supplies to the Cassiar and Yukon gold fields.

Old fur trading era buildings can still be seen there, along the Stikine River. Old trails can still be found, including the famous Yukon Telegraph line which once linked Vancouver to Whitehorse and Dawson City. This life line ran 3,040 kilometers (1900 miles). Many parts of this trail can still be traveled today. One such part runs right by The Bear Paw Ranch Resort.

    Spatzizi Wilderness Park:

Spatzizi means red goat in the local native Tahltan language, due to the mountain goats habit of rolling in the red soil. The Spatzizi comprises and area of 675,000 hectares (1,667,250 acres) of unlogged forests and rugged mountains. Behold nature's most splendid scenery offering breathtaking vistas, tranquillity and adventure.
Story The Spatzizi Wilderness Park is in close proximity, to make your holiday (vacation) an unforgettable experience.
Hike hidden trails above timberline, on foot or on horseback, or take a boat tour down the wild rivers that tumble from the Spatzizi Plateau.
Goat Mountain Tour: 2 day, overnight, ages 14 - 60
Goat Mountain Tour / Helicopter Option: Day tour only.
McEwen Trail Tour: 2 day, overnight, ages 14 - 60.

    Stikine River Stikine River:

Experience the Stikine river, 640 kilometers (400 miles) in length. The Bear Paw Ranch Resort will jet boat you on this mighty river to a little known spot, where you can pan for "real" gold. This is one of the last free-flowing rivers in North America. This river has created the dramatic Grand Canyon of the Stikine -- a major geological wonder. Gorges up to 300 meters (984 feet) deep were carved through layers of sandstone, granite and volcanic rock, by the power of the river. The Stikine River basin, passing through two countries, abounds with a great variety of wildlife that still coexists in a natural balance between predator and prey.

    For the Flying Enthusiast:

Thrill to a helicopter ride down the Grand Canyon of the Stikine River (class 6+ rapids), or relax in the gentle landing of a float plane on a secluded mountain lake, where the fishing is superb. The great northern wilderness by air, is a terrific way to bring those green spots on the map to life, and closer to you.

    Wildlife Photography:

Bring your camera. The photographic opportunities are unlimited. Whether you’re an amateur or expert, you’ll be able to capture the rainbow colors of the volcanic Spectrum Range, the gleam of pure gold that you pan from the streams, or a bald eagle in full flight. Wildlife is plentiful with black bears, grizzlies, wolves, mountain goats, stone sheep, caribou, moose, wolverines and not at all, an uncommon sight.

Big Rainbow Trout Chinnook Salmon For the Sport Fisherman:

Drop a line into clear and pristine alpine streams and lakes that are rich with lake trout, rainbow trout, dolly varden, whitefish, arctic grayling, northern pike, salmon and steelhead. There is fish a plenty, to thrill the experienced fisherman, as well as entice those folks, trying out for the first time.

To your left is a stringer of some very big, very tasty Rainbow Trout. The Bear Paw Ranch Resort arranged and accompanied a small group to be flown out to this remote lake by float plane and spend a summer day fishing in the wild Canadian north. When asked about the best fishing technique to use on fish such as these, all this very happy beginner fisherwoman had to say was "Always fish where the Bald Eagles are fishing." That is a Chinook Salmon on your right.
Iskut Lakes Tour - a rare experience for all age groups
Canoe Fishing Tour - Morcheaua Lake: Fun for all age groups!
Eleau Lake Fishing Tour: An "easy" day tour for all age groups!

Winter Beauty For the Wintertime Adventurer:

Great wintertime adventure is available for those whose favorite season includes snow. Cross country ski touring and ice fishing is available, in an area that offers unlimited opportunities. Skier Snowmobile to mountaintops you would never dream of reaching by foot. Spend those long winter nights nice and cozy, by a warm fireplace with good friends. Be prepared for the unexpected, sudden splendor of the Northern Lights dancing across the winter sky. And be sure to listen for the lone wolf cry in our northern wilderness.
